Coverage
What's covered, what's not
We repair everything we make, for every owner, for the life of the garment. Read this once before starting a ticket — most damage on ShyRanger gear is fully covered, and the small list below is the only thing that isn't.
-
01
Apparel: shells, insulation, midlayers, pants
Seam separation, blown zippers, broken snaps and buckles, delaminated membranes, worn cuffs and hems, pilling on high-friction zones. Both SilentShell™ softshell and MuteShell 3L hardshell pieces are covered.
Hydrostatic head ratings are stated per fabric. We won't promise "lifetime waterproof" — we promise the garment can be returned to factory spec.
-
02
Sleep systems: quilts, pads, pillows
Down and synthetic baffle restoration, shell patching, valve replacement, seam tape renewal, broken elastic and shock cord, stuck inflation. Covered regardless of whether you sleep on it in a shelter, a pickup bed, or a bivy under a tarp.
-
03
Packs and accessories
Hipbelt and shoulder-strap re-stitching, frame-sheet replacement, buckles, tensioners, hydration port repair, worn base fabric on the lower panels of any pack we've sold under the ShyRanger or earlier house labels.
-
04
What's not covered
Damage from solvents, open flame, machine-dryer heat, pets, or modification by a third party. Cosmetic-only requests on garments that still perform to spec — we will tell you honestly if a repair wouldn't earn the return trip. Garments older than 12 years are evaluated case-by-case against current material availability.
The Guarantee
How the lifetime repair guarantee actually works
There is no expiration on a ShyRanger repair. The original buyer matters only for warranty overlap — every owner after that, including people who bought the jacket used from a friend in a trail-town parking lot, is covered the same way. Send us the garment; we'll send it back patched.
We pay return shipping on every completed repair, always. You cover the cost of getting the garment to us — a flat $12 label inside the U.S., a printable international slip otherwise. If the damage is the result of a fabric or construction defect we can identify (a seam that let go at the binding, a membrane that delaminated without external cause), we refund that label too. We tell you which it is in the work-order note.
If a garment is beyond repair — typically because the face fabric has worn through across a panel too large to patch without compromising the membrane — we'll offer you 35% off the equivalent current-season piece and recycle the old garment through our partner in Salt Lake. We will not invent reasons to refuse a repair to save cost. Through 2024, 94.1% of intake tickets ended in a returned, repaired garment. The remaining 5.9% were approved replacements or owner-elected recycling.
If you live near one of the 218 independent retailers that carry us, drop the garment off in person and skip the label entirely. The list is at /retailers/. Trail-town drop-offs are the fastest path; Bozeman mail-ins average 18 business days door-to-door, trail-town drop-offs average 9.
