March 1, 1996 - TV Guide - "Out to Help the Hungry"
Lock up your fridges'. It's that minx Minnie Crozier, this week gathering
sponsors from other Shortland Street personalities so she can take part in
World Vision's 40-hour famine.
This year, money raised will help children suffering from the aftermath of war in
Bosnia, Sudan, Chechnya, Burundi and Cambodia.
Skeptical Shortland Street fans will recall that Minnie's last charitable escapade,
an epilepsy appeal, ended with Minnie squandering the proceeds on a CD collection for
herself!
Actress Katrina Devine, 15, who plays the sometimes wayward schoolgirl, says Minnie will
make a big effort to reform this time. "She really wants to do the right thing," she says.
But can Minnie resist the many temptations that befall a growing teenager after going
several hours without a bite to eat?
If art imitates life the prospects look unpromising. Katrina admits her own famine effort, a
couple of years ago, ended abruptly when she succumbed to a piece of toast.
"But it's a really good cause and if people can't manage the 40 hours, then they should try
the junior 20-hour famine," she says.
