March, 2002 - Woman's Day - "Katrina's Night on the Tiles"

together on an exciting new project ...

Former Shortland Street starlet Katrina Devine is no stranger to
weddings, in real life or on the stage - and her latest role, playing
a married woman at a hen party in the play Flush, is no exception.

I think I'm an expert on weddings and everything that goes with
them now," laughs Katrina.

Her latest project, playing geeky bank teller Mary, is one of her most daunting.

"My character is totally different from myself, which is really great," says Katrina. "She has
no idea of fashion, the complete opposite to me. I'm a real girlie girl."

Being involved in the hen's night scene will also be a new experience for Katrina, who
married actor Blair Strang three months ago without the traditional night.

"I had a really quiet dinner with my family and a few friends," says the star. "I'm not into
that whole thing of getting a stripper and stuff."

Katrina admits she is nervous about her lead role in the play, which is set in the bathroom
of a nightclub.

"I'm pretty much on stage the whole time;" she says. "It will be a challenge to see if I can
cope learning all those lines without being able to make a mistake because there's an
audience. I can't say, "Can I do that again?"

Luckily, Katrina has the best person to practice lines with because Blair is also in the play.

"I wanted to do this play because it gives Blair and me an opportunity to work together,"
says Katrina, who will be back on later this year with a guest role on
Street Legal. "It's
going to be cool because Blair and I didn't really have much to do with each other while we
were on
Shortland Street."

And how's Katrina enjoying her real married life?

"I love it. It's so much more of a commitment between us."
